Inadequate measures to close one lane of road

Reported via desktop in the Obstruction to Highway category anonymously at 10:07, Wednesday 24 May 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4589987.

Contractors placed signage to close off one lane of Crofton Lane on Monday 22 May - priority is given to traffic approaching from the Crofton School direction. No permit is displayed, and no works have taken place in the last 48 hours.

The arrangement is dangerous for vehicles on such a busy road, and no provision has been made for crossing pedestrians, particularly children walking to Perry Hall/Crofton schools, for whom there are dropped kerbs at that point.

  • It appears that work to restore a degraded speed bump at the site has been completed, and there is no open record of the works on the borough roadworks map. However the signage/cones have been left in situ and now need to be collected if they have served their purpose.

  • No works appear to have taken place or are taking place. Road closure is dangerous in its design. No permit is displayed. Is this an abandoned work site? Which organisation is meant to be carrying out the works?

  • This partial closure was for an emergency manhole replacement by Thames Water. We believe that the site has now been cleared.
