Grass verges in general overhanging pavements
Reported via desktop in the Grass Verge Cutting category by Susan Green at 22:04, Monday 15 May 2023
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4558648.
The grass verges have not been cut in general around this whole estate this year. The foliage has grown and seeded - some grasses for example are currently nearly 2 foot high in places and seeding. The pavements are narrowed by necessity to park cars two wheels on pavement. The gap is insufficient to pass with our dogs on leads without contacting seeding foliage. This is very dangerous for the well being of dogs in particular - seeds get into their ears, feet, groin and armpit causing severe distress and if they penetrate can only be removed by a vet, under anaesthetic. Seeds in the ears can result in deafness! And for the owner large vet bills. The verges a full of plants to support wild life but mowing still allows access to many wild flowers - they do not need the seeds and apart from our animals, neither do the gutters and pathways inundated with foliage and peoples gardens who try to keep the estate looking nice, which are now full of weeds. The perimeter of Hoblingwell park is left long so once again a seed problem for animals. Soon the only place to walk will be the centre of the road! Please can sanity reign here. If the estate has grass verges then they need to be maintained!

The contractors came but the job is no longer trim blow and go - executed too late so job hit and miss and piles of grass left in gutters and on pavement as no where to blow it too! The seed laying around is creating pavements full of weeds which are becoming a trip hazard and gutters being compromised by weeds which diverts the rain from its path to the drains. If we get heavy rain it will be diverted towards the the houses down hill - this estate is built on a hill. The whole not getting the verges cut is developing into a bigger and bigger problem - we really need you to direct your contractors to sort this issue out!
