Enquiry about the tree from Robert Dixon from Sudborough parish Council, this has been bouncing around via e-madam

The attached Land Registry plan shows the relevant section of Main Street in Sudborough. The tree we are concerned about is a weeping willow and it stands at the eastern end of a triangular shaped area of verge on the northern side of Main Street. The area of verge in question lies to the west of the property shown on the plan as Brook House. At the western end of the area of verge is a de-commissioned telephone box. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding it. Although I have not spoken to them myself, I understand the owners of Brook House are sure the triangular area of verge does not form part of their property. Their belief, which is shared by everyone I have spoken to, is that the area of verge belongs to the Highway Authority. That seems logical because the area is immediately adjacent to Main Street with nothing in between other than a pavement. The other two sides of the triangular area are bounded by high stone walls. I’m not an expert in trees but it looks to me as though the weeping willow is suffering either from lack of water to its roots or from some other kind of deficiency. Whatever the cause, the tree has for at least the past 7 or 8 months looked very sick whereas previously it had always been healthy looking. For what it’s worth, my wife and I had a large weeping willow in the garden of our last house and that tree also at one stage started to look very sick. We called in a tree specialist who advised that certain nutrients be injected into the ground around the base of the tree. This was done and the tree duly recovered and returned to full health. We never found out the reason for the tree’s sickness. It was simply “one of those things”. If you could give the parish council some guidance as to why the tree might be suffering, and what might be done by whom to remedy the problem, that would be greatly appreciated. I hope this helps.
