Road is flooding from 2 sources - this is a hazard

Reported via desktop in the Other Road Issues category anonymously at 07:43, Fri 31 March 2023

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4379900.

The ongoing issue of flooding on this corner of the road remains. The drain in the centre of the road has brown water pouring out of it like a fountain and flooding both sides of this blind corner. But there is also water pouring out of the industrial unit site which runs across the width of the road, adding to the flooding issue and a hazard to motorists.

Please can you inform and force the water/drains company to deal with this constant flooding finally.

Also, we need more flood warning signage as most vehicles speed on this section of road and then brake suddenly when they see the flood water - also a hazard with slow-moving haulage vehicles pulling out of the two units on either side of the road.

  • "not the council's responsibility"

I know I know.....this is always the response. But the highway is the council's responsibility and there is a hazard at present. You will have contact with the water company as this has been reported many times. Does the council not work with service companies to make sure things get fixed?

And large volumes of water leaking off a business site, arguably under the councils remit? You would deal with noise, lighting, and traffic/parking complaints for businesses paying rates, right?

  • The water company turned up and left the usual red plastic barriers in the middle of a road lane, right in front of a junction. The flood water has gone as it's been dry for 3 days but the barriers remain in the road.

I don't see what purpose they serve, the water company are not fixing the issue. They just put out barriers which become as much of a hazard to road users as the flood water!

Can these barriers be removed please? Perhaps the council could pressure the water company to fix the problem............

  • Red plastic barriers are still in the middle of a road lane which at this point, is a hazard as clearly no other works are being carried out.
