Debris and an uneven path and scattered with large stones along the curb

Reported via desktop in the Road Defect category anonymously at 01:34, Tuesday 28 March 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4366598.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the current state of Albany Road, which has resulted in a serious injury to myself.

While walking my dog on Saturday night, I tripped on debris and an uneven path, causing me to fall and break my ankle. The area is littered with large stones and debris along the curb, which made the accident much worse. I was forced to visit the hospital, where I received the unfortunate news that I have a broken ankle, which will require me to wear a cast for six weeks.

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed that Bromley Council has failed to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of its citizens. The council's negligence in delaying the complete repair of the street and the thorough clearance of all debris has resulted in my injury.

It is the council's responsibility to maintain the streets and ensure that they are safe for pedestrians. However, the state of Albany Road is a clear indication that this responsibility has not been fulfilled.

I urge the council to take immediate action to address the issue by repairing the street and clearing all debris. Additionally, I would appreciate if the council could compensate me and the loss of earnings, I will face during the as I will not be able to work and for my injury.

I hope that you will investigate this issue and take appropriate action to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  • The area has been inspected and there are no further defects at investigatory levels present at this time. The investigatory levels for repair in the footway are trips of 20mm or above, or if the slabs are loose and rocking severely. Paving is not replaced if just cracked. In the carriageway it is for localised immediate vertical deflections measuring 30mm deep or more in the trafficked directions. This does not mean that all defects that reach this level will be repaired, just that they may be considered for repair. The road will continue to receive regular inspections and any assessed safety defects identified on those will have remedial works raised. Further deterioration can be reported as a new report via: https://fix.bromley.gov.uk

We have raised a separate report for our Street Cleansing contractor with regard to any debris and stones in the road.

State changed to: No further action
