Footpath signs missing: Nether Wheal Farm
Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 11:11, Mon 27 January 2014
Sent to Derbyshire County Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 428744.
Attempted to follow the footpath from Wheal Lane, at the point opposite Over Wheal Farm, across in a westerley direction to Nether Wheal Farm.
There was no clear footpath to be seen, just a morass of cattle tracks: the map clearly showed the footpath leading through the farmyard but on approaching the farm, we were faced with no signs at all, and the only approach was to either climb a dry-stone wall (frowned upon by all farmers) and trespass (also frowned upon) or to wade through the 4" deep slurry around the water trough/gateway to the farm. Which is what we did. Once through the gate, stinking to high heaven, there were still no signs: we had to ask a farm worker how to get out of the farm.
At the far end of the farm lane, where it ran into The Jarnett, we found a footpath post, but the pointing finger had been removed.
Please replace the missing finger post at The Jarnett end, and ensure that there is clear signing through the farm yard, in both directions, and that there is adequate access for walkers. Or re-route the footpath a few metres to the north, avoiding the farm altogether, which - frankly - would be more pleasant for all concerned.
Thank you.
