Street lights

Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 22:35, Fri 24 January 2014 ; (there is no pin shown as the user did not use the map)

Sent to Norfolk County Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 427688.

The street lights have been out on new college close now since around the 13th December, numerous people have phoned in, I am writing to you also because this is an accident waiting to happen, it is so dangerous, I have two daughters who absolutely hate coming home in the pitch black, could somebody please get this sorted.

Updates

  • Letter received from Brandon Lewis MP stating he is aware of the problem and that he has also contacted the council. Previous e-mail from GYBC Services states they are planning the work in the middle of February so hopefully they will be fixing it soon. I agree it is a disgrace and an accident waiting to happen. I did hear a cyclist riding along the pavement had crashed into a lady, but cannot confirm this. Please get it fixed!

  • From GYBC, today:

A permanent solution to the failing lights had to be found and I took the decision to have all the old lighting columns around New College Close replaced and the new columns connected directly to the UK Power Networks cable system. In order for this work to be carried out it has been necessary to liaise with Norfolk County Council’s Highways Department, UK Power Networks and other statutory utility companies and this was completed on 31 January 2014.

I have attached to this email a copy of an email sent to another resident of New College Close advising that person of progress made and timescales for works to be completed. I acknowledge that such an email should also have been sent to you and I apologise for this omission.

You will see from the attached email that installation works are due to commence this week (the actual date being tomorrow) and the electrical connections works next week.

  • It's nearly 3 months in total darkness, not good with elderly residents in this area.
