Road crumbling loose gravel, potholes.

Reported via desktop anonymously at 14:39, Thu 23 February 2023

Sent to Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4258090.

Most of Star road is in terrible condition, and has been getting steadily worse for many months. There are surface potholes of various sizes and the surface is very uneven. There is a lot of loose gravel and bits of tarmac where the surface is breaking up. When it rains the loose gravel gets washed out and often flicked up as vehicles pass over it, presenting a risk of damage to windscreens as well as to passing pedestrians. Some "repairs" were done recently which only lasted a day before the "repairs" failed and the road surface was back to its prior state. The whole road urgently needs to be properly resurfaced.

  • An uneven road sign was put up at the entrance to the road 1 month ago but otherwise nothing has happened. Road is getting worse and cars now need to swerve to opposite sides of road to avoid the holes and cracks in the surface. Looking on the council website for planned roadworks there is nothing mentioned regarding Star Road ....yet.

  • The council has made no effort to repair the road. Its condition is getting worse by the day and vehicles swerve from side to side on the road in an attempt to avoid the worst of the holes, but as there are so many they cannot be avoided all together.

West Sussex Council were number 7 on the list worst roads in the UK....looks like they are trying to get to number 1....TOP OF THE POTS

  • Very recently wscc have filled in about 4/5 holes at the beginning of star road, this is a complete waste of time, as the road surface has broken up all around this miniscule patchwork fill in.. problem is they could see the condition of the road, why did they bother, it's just like they found some left over bitumen after doing someone's footpath and they didn't know where to put it. This whole road needs sorting NOW. Vehicles are now using the grass verge and footpath to avoid this stretch of road, which in its present state is more suited for a Salisbury Plain tank course.

  • As another person commented previously, little has been done to rectify the problems with the road. A few patches have been placed here and there which are insignificant to the point that you need to look very hard to see where the patches have actually been placed. Apparently repairing Star road is not a priority for WSC. They are currently resurfacing sections of the A24 near the Washington roundabout and did a section further up near Dialpost a few weeks ago. They also recently did some resurfacing at the findon roundabout and yet to me none of these works seemed necessary. On the whole those roads seemed in good condition. I quite understand they have a budget for repairing the roads and there is only so much they can to with it, but then you would think they would repair / resurface the worst roads, which actually need repair, rather than carry out work on roads in seemingly good condition just for the sake of it.
