Bollard suggestion

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 10:19, Fri 17 February 2023

Sent to Hull City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4240481.

Cars exiting Hardy Street and going into the private takeaway car park on the south side of Cottingham Road are driving along the footpath as a short cut. E.g. some do not enter the road at Cottingham Road at all but instead turn a sharp right and mount the pavement on the corner of Hardy Street, drive over where the blind/tactile paving slabs are and continue along the footpath before turning right into the car park.

This is alarming for pedestrians walking along Cottingham Road when a car suddenly turns onto the pavement and drives head-on towards them (driving on the footpath, facing east and parallel to the road) and leaving them nowhere to go. Happened last night and the driver got out and sincerely apologised but this is not the first time.

As the images show, cars that want to enter the car park from Hardy Street must, if driving correctly, cross three lines of traffic before before indicating and sharply crossing back across the three lanes to enter via the designated dropped kerb. It is therefore too tempting for them to take a. easier route and drive along the path.

May I *suggest* that bollards or a metal railing are added to the corner of Hardy Street and Cottingham Road to limit the space for a vehicle to get through...and therefore prevent takeaway vehicles and taxis (e.g. regular users of the private car park coming from Hardy Street, especially at night when these businesses are most active) from driving along the pavement.
