Bollards needed to protect the pavement - Motorists illegally driving on the pavement to park

At the busy entrance to the college and co-op store on Ashley Down Road, motorists (usually van drivers) ILLEGALLY drive on the pavement to park adjacent to the Pelican crossing. By parking here, they are causing a dangerous obstruction to pedestrians, but they are also obstructing the view motorists have of pedestrians as they approach the traffic lights. These are also illegal.

Motorists driving on the pavement and parking here is a regular, daily occurrence and can happen at any time of the day.

Bollards are needed to be installed here to protect the pavement and to prevent motorists putting the public (mainly pedestrians) in danger. It is vital this happens before someone is injured or worse. This is a SERIOUS public health and safety concern.

  • I live opposite this and con confirm that this is a very common occurrence; vans blocks the pavement for pedestrians and often make it impossible to see traffic approaching whilst waiting at the crossing. Vans park illegally here frequently throughout the day -- the vans often Hemes/Evri drivers collecting parcels from the Co-op.

    Pavement parking is also very common on the pavement outside Muller House, adjacent to the bus stop.

  • Thanks for your update on this - perhaps we can use this fix my street report to post photos of vehicles that we see that have been driven on the pavement to be parked? I have recently (last couple of weeks) reported to the police an Evri driver who was repeatedly driving on the pavement, as well a BT Open Reach driver. I also reported both of these drivers to Evri and BT, respectively with positive response. In the past, I have done the same with G4S attending the co-op and Amazon. These drivers are breaking the law by driving on the pavement and causing a safety risk by parking on the pavement especially right next to a pelican crossing.

    Re-placed bollards would solve this issue overnight.

    And again today, an Evri driver who had illegally driven on the pavement to park next to the pelican crossing.

    This illegal driving on the pavement will carry on unless you do something to prevent it. This is putting pedestrians at significant risk of being hit by motorists

    Another example of a delivery driver ILLEGALLY driving on the pavement to park.

    This needs to be sorted out - bollards are needed to prevent this illegal driving on the pavement outside the college, next to the coop and adjacent to the Pelican crossing.
