Cars parked making the corner blind(er)

Reported via mobile in the Car parking category anonymously at 16:33, Thu 2 February 2023

Sent to Reading Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4197451.

There are always cars parked along the lefthand side of the road on Pottery Road just before the bend in the road (the bend pin pointed on the map) leading to Hirstwood. There are also always cars parked along the lefthand side of the road coming from the other direction (from Hirstwood towards Pottery Road), again, leading right up to the bend in the road. There are no double yellows hence why cars continue to park here. However, it makes the bend completely blind due to other obstructions, meaning one only knows another vehicle is there when they meet it head on. Even going at a slow speed, this is hugely dangerous and I feel it is very much an accident waiting to happen (if they have not already happened). It is much better to be preventative in these situations, and having several near misses myself, I feel some action needs to be taken - whether that be adding in some double yellow lines or something else which will reduce this risk.

  • Of note - this bend is particularly problematic when a car is coming from one direction and a motorbike/cyclist from the other (since they are more difficult to see regardless due to their size).
