Reported via iOS in the Roads/highways category by Mr J van den Broeke at 11:36, Sat 28 January 2023

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4177505.

The Drain grill outside the signal box on the main road has broken away from the road surface and when traffic drives over it a loud metallic noise is made disturbing the residents. This has been reported before several times but nothing has been done to fix it.

  • This has been like this for a very long time and is driving the residents mad.

  • Some tar has been used in the hole but the real problem which is the manhole cover next to the drain clangs every time a car goes over it which drives us mad , so no the problem has not been fixed. It needs a proper repair not a blob of tar.

  • The noise of metal on metal clanging is still bad and disturbing when traffic drives over it constantly.

  • The temporary bit of Bitumen stopped the noise for about a week and no surprise the noise has returned because the bitumen has worn away

  • The various attempts to fix this issue are admirable but it needs more attention rather than just a blob of tarmac it is the design of two metal plates next and on top of each other which is the problem.

  • This is becoming a record for Highway Sussex, not fixing a problem which is causing the residents sleepless nights. This problem will never be fixed with a blob of tarmac. It needs a professional repair, not a botched attempt. I wonder if this was outside one of Highway’s managers, would it still need fixing after more than a year.

  • Not fixed , still unable to open my windows due to the noise. I really don’t expect anything anymore the whole system and Highways department need to be replaced. It’s either to technical to fix or lack of incentive which runs through the whole country.
