Defective waste bin removed and not replaced

Reported via mobile in the Park Repairs category anonymously at 17:01, Monday 16 January 2023 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4137262.

It was originally reported on 12th July 2022 that the waste bin at this location was in need of repair/replacement as the hinged lid was missing. The following is a copy of part of that report - “This report has not been satisfactorily fixed. The fix has been to completely removed the waste bin as opposed to attaching a hinged lid and restoring it to a similar condition as the remaining bins around the Common. This was an ‘asset’ for which there should surely be a maintenance budget to maintain it in good order. Keston Common is a ‘Green Flag’ area and LBB should be monitoring that it remains as such. This was a well used bin, to just take it away is a poor excuse to just close down a well justified report.” idverde made contact direct with the author of the original report in September 2022 advising a replacement bin was to be sourced. However, there has been no further contact and the waste bin that was completely removed has still not been replaced. Please follow up with your contractors and update accordingly.

  • This issue has been badly actioned. The bin was perfectly usable (albeit with some damage) - it should never have been removed before a viable alternative was available to replace it. The Common has now been without this bin for some six months and its an inconvenience that should not have arisen.

  • The bin as yet has not been replaced as advised by the portfolio holder. Further action is most definitely required and until such time the issue remains open

  • We are waiting for the bin to be delivered, unfortunately due to issues in the supply chain beyond our control, it is taking longer to arrive than normal. As soon as we receive this we will prioritise to get this installed.
