Crossing island is completely unlit

Reported via desktop in the Light Not Working category anonymously at 19:35, Wednesday 4 January 2023

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4087739.

The broken light on the pavement near this island has now been removed, but the crosssing Island is now completely unlit with no lights on the bollards or on the light above. This island is used by a large number of schoolchildren, and also dog walkers, everyday to cross the road and is now very dangerous. It requires very urgent attention to avoid a serious accident. The image does not show how dark it is due to the nature of the camera. Please address as a matter of urgency.

  • These lights are STILL out, more than 2 weeks after the original report. The temporary lights attached to the bollards are also not working. Bromley Council - get your act together and fix this urgently.

Posted anonymously at 22:45, Thursday 19 January 2023

  • Is anyone at the Council reading these reports or are they just ignoring the safety of motorists and pedestrians caused by the total lack of light at this crossing island? It is over 3 weeks since this issue was first reported and still nothing has been done.

Posted anonymously at 22:52, Thursday 26 January 2023

  • Another week has passed and still nothing has been done about this dangerous situation. Bromley Council, please explain your lack of action.

  • When will the Council fix this serious safety issue???

Posted anonymously at 23:07, Thursday 2 February 2023
    Still open, via questionnaire

  • Apologies for the delay, we are experiencing extremely long lead times and waiting for materials to resolve this job.

Posted by Bromley Council at 12:51, Tuesday 7 February 2023

  • Even if there is a genuine reason for the delay in fixing this issue (now more then 5 weeks), why can't we have some temporary lighting that actually works (the lanterns currently attached to the bollards do nothing)?

Posted anonymously at 22:46, Thursday 9 February 2023

  • The connection from the column powers the island, so we are unable to offer alternative lighting. Thank you for your patience.

Posted by Bromley Council at 09:50, Tuesday 21 February 2023

  • There are orange lanterns strapped to the bollards. What is the point of these if they cannot be lit? Why can't something reflective be used to give drivers some warning of the danger? The extremely long delay in resolving this issue is unacceptable.

Posted anonymously at 23:03, Thursday 2 March 2023

  • No progress two months from when I first reported this. Is there no concern about safety!!!

Posted anonymously at 14:43, Friday 3 March 2023

  • We currently waiting for delivery of materials to enable us to fix the problem. These are expected to be delivered on the week commencing 8th April 2023. Thank you for your patience.

Posted by Bromley Council at 10:02, Monday 6 March 2023

  • So it is going to be at least another month before this is fixed, and more than 3 months since the initial report! Why does it take so long to get the relevant materials? The crossing island needs some protection in the meantime - even some cones would be better than nothing.

Posted anonymously at 09:36, Tuesday 7 March 2023

  • STILL nothing has been done about these dangerous unlit bollards. The Council clearly have no concern about public safety. Why not use some reflective cones as a temporary measure?

Posted anonymously at 22:38, Thursday 16 March 2023

  • We are currently waiting for delivery of materials to enable us to fix the problem. These are expected to be delivered on week commencing May 2023. Thank you for your patience.

Posted by Bromley Council at 12:59, Wednesday 22 March 2023

  • What materials are so scarce that it takes 4-5 months for delivery? This is ridiculous. Bromley Council will be responsible if there is an accident at this island due to lack of visibility. Why not put some cones as previously suggested?

Posted anonymously at 22:27, Thursday 23 March 2023

  • Apologies for the delay, we have attached lanterns to the bollards.

Posted by Bromley Council at 08:21, Friday 24 March 2023

  • As previously advised, the lanterns are not working. You need to either get them to work or find another solution. This cannot be left for another 2 months.

  • If no power to the island naybe a good time for LBB to upgrade the bollards to solar / flexi bollards
