Broken road surface

Reported via desktop in the Potholes category by Ian Downie at 13:29, Tue 3 January 2023

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4080763.

Dreadful road surface with potholes. Contractors only do a quick fix on the cheap so they are called back all the time. It must be a scam so they get repeat business instead of doing a proper repair.

  • Almost without exception, any repairs are short lasting and of a substandard quality. It seems the highways choose the cheapest (short-term) cost per event contractors, which means the work needs repeating. Money for old rope. Whoever is choosing the contractors is either on the take or is incompetent.

  • Any repairs carried out are shoddy to say the least and short lived. I don't understand why we can put a man on the moon but are incapable or incompetent when it comes to road repairs. Every week there are new or recurrent potholes. If I was employing a contractor to do this work I would refuse to pay them. Someone somewhere is either oblivious or couldn't care less. We had a man die this week when he rode his cycle into a pothole. When are we going to get public services that are what is needed? We pay enough tax. Do we need to vote this council out? Or get them to employ departmental officers who know how to do the job?
