Serious number of potholes & roadway damage

Reported via desktop in the Potholes category anonymously at 20:24, Mon 2 January 2023

Sent to Newport Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4078409.

This roadway in in seriously POOR condition with potholes along its length. I have friends that have fallen & injured themselves, I have had punctures due to the potloles and walking in wet weather is very unpleasant, at least wellingtons are necessary but I don't have any. Visiting St Mary's Church our Village church community centre on Sunday was a very risky business walking that roadway. It serves a number of houses, medical centre, allotments, plus farms & our local church & vicarage. It is in constant use & a disgrace please resurface it before someone is seriously injured.

Updates

  • I reported back to Newport Council on their acknowledgement Email, - that this report is showing the WRONG address & should read CHURCH LANE as map from St Marys Church past Church Farm to Marshfield Road is a very damaged surface with many dangerous potholes. From the Church the other way large vehicles have damaged the sides of the roadway too.

  • Church Lane Marshfield I still full of potholes & getting worse. Heavy lorries & large traffic vehicles are adding to the damage. Its dangerous to walk along & as many older people travel that way during the week also to & from St Marys Church for all manner of services its a dangerous disgrace for cyclists & pedestrians....

  • During the recent wet weather this route has reduced the number of walkers & church visitors able to access St Mary's Church. It is quite unaccetable that this diabolocal situation continues as I know a number of others including the Vicar have requested repair many times & written to the NewportCC for action. The excuse they use is not a valid one as its a public highway used by commercial & private plus Council delivery & refuse vehicles. Also the very large 10ton & 20 ton lorries continue to damage and make the condition worse week after week they should never be allowede access to break down the roadsides towards the drainage Reens.

  • Unacceptable lack of action to fix a real public need waiting for someone to be injured or worse.
