Bridleway EW12 gate obstructed by concrete slab

Reported via desktop in the Gate - Damaged/ Missing category anonymously at 21:28, Thu 29 December 2022 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4067312.

The gate only opens approximately 1m at an angle of approx 45 degrees because a concrete slab has been placed in front of it. Although this is probably to prevent anti-social behaviour, the gap available is insufficient to safely open and pass through with a horse.

  • On Sunday 5 February this photo was taken showing that no action has been taken to remove the obstruction to the bridleway and provide a safe gate for access. See the protruding bolt which could gouge the side of a horse or the rider's leg, worsened by the restricted width of the access through the gate due to the concrete block positioned there. There is no horse-rider friendly handle on the field gate for opening ad closing the gate on horseback.

  • Investigation: Completed (No Action Necessary) - We can confirm we have visited the location. The gap measured and the gate opens to 1.8m (5ft), which is acceptable. Currently there are no concerns here.

State changed to: No further action
