Confusing cycle signage at north end of Adur Ferry Bridge

Reported in the Road traffic signs category anonymously at 19:53, Sun 24 November 2013

Sent to West Sussex County Council 2 minutes later

There are two large blue "END OF ROUTE" cycle signs at the north end of the new Adur Ferry Bridge. This is a bit confusing, as it is part of National Cycle "Route" 2, which does not "end" here, but in fact continues all the way to Dover, a further 95 miles :) I'm not sure what the "end of route" sign is trying to tell cyclists to do. Maybe to dismount? ...but even this seems inappropriate, as the bridge ends at a Toucan Crossing across the A259 into East Street, which by definition means cyclists are permitted to ride across it, and shouldn't have to dismount. Surely the couple of metres of footway between the bridge and toucan crossing are 'shared use'?
