Please Fix This Drop Kerb
The standard of the pavements is very poor in the Gleadless Townend area - uneven. Although there are some dropped kerbs they are poor forcing a wheelchair user to use the road. Most of the dropped kerbs are not truly dropped - they are not flush with the road which can cause a chair to tip or get stuck. Many of the dropped kerbs are on such a steep gradient that it is dangerous for a chair to negotiate without support from an able-bodied person. Road S particularly affected are in the Carson Mount and White Lane area.
Adequate dropped kerb provision is important and some dropped kerbs are either unusable or absent where needed and can render a large area either hard or impossible for a person reliant on a wheel chair or scooter to use.
My wheelchair has tipped twice on uneven dropped Kerbs, and the Council have a public duty under the equality and human rights act to provide access to goods and services.
