Parking curb

Reported via mobile in the Road Defect category anonymously at 23:21, Mon 21 November 2022

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3982248.

Along one side of Thorndon close, 4 wheel parking is permitted. With this the grass verge has sunk so badly that vehicles are continuously getting stuck and damaged. The road is narrow and parking with 2 wheels would only cause blockages to other road users, emergency services and council services. Recently an old lady lost footing and slipped over when exiting a car. Ita extremely dangerous and needs addressing. It's been like this for well over a year.

  • Can you please tell me how on earth 2 wheel parking is permitted when you would not physically be able to get up and down the road if that was in place. The 2 wheel parking signs have had covers on them for years I've been told by other residents due to the fact 2 wheel parking restricts the close being used.

  • Still open, via questionnaire, 23:35, Mon 19 December 2022

  • As you can see, these screen shots taken from Google maps the signs have been covered for a very long time. I've also tried to include how narrow it is further down where space for 4 wheel parking is. It gets even more narrow opposite house No 37. Parking around here is already tight but where the previous submitted photos are, it's not safe, it's not fit for purpose and parking with 2 wheels will only lead to tension between residents, and also no access for emergency services should any of the houses from 31 towards the dead end of the close. Please if you can provide an update.

  • This report has been referred to our Traffic Management Team who are responsible for the way traffic is managed on Bromley's roads; including, but not limited to, implementing new road markings and signage in relation to road safety and parking; walking and cycling improvements, including identifying locations for new cycle racks and installing Vehicle Activated speed signs - however, please note that responsibility for enforcing speed limits rests with the Police.

Where requests are made for changes, our Traffic Management Team will consider all requests but often there is a need for a full investigation, planning and consultation within the local area particularly around proposed new traffic schemes, and any considerations must be balanced with borough-wide priorities. This report is now closed on FixMyStreet and our Traffic Management Team will consider this matter.

  • Why are the LBB being so ignorant of the physical facts. This metre of grass has been destroyed. The LBB allow on street parking through the borough which destroys traffic flow (but perversely free calming measures) and then mark the public roads for parking to generate revenue. So please fix this!

  • After a year and 20 years of indifference just get on with install 20m pavement. This is NOT rocket science

  • What’s really disappointing is that the council have been made aware, (previous to my initial report in November 2022) about an issue which is very much resolvable and still nothing has been done. We as residents are not asking for a complete overhaul of the close so we can all have a drive to pull onto, we are merely asking for some improvements to be made for the current parking. We battle with spaces because this one area of concern is stopping people parking there now as it’s damaging their vehicles. Times have moved on since the close was built and people have cars now. More than 1 in a lot of cases. move with the times, make the adjustments, 4 wheel parking, roads clear for residents, emergency services and waste disposal personnel.

  • As you can see my wife’s car damaged and that still with 2 wheels on the road. I feel it’s time to act on the parking and stop all the back and forth between us.

  • It is not council policy to expand carriageway to provide new parking spaces. Therefore, there are no plans to pave the part of the grass verge for additional parking.

We will be consulting with affected residents in the coming weeks once the traffic engineering team have finalised their proposal(s) for the issue.

  • What is the councils policy on parking then? As it’s not new parking. It’s existing and it’s damaged. It’s absolutely ridiculous what what’s going on. Residents can’t win. They either leave the close to look like a mess, or try to inform the “right” people and things don’t get taken seriously. Can’t even cut the grass properly. It’s comical.

  • The LBB have created new parking all over the borough to generate revenue and use all the on street parking as a free traffic calming measures. So the arguement doesn’t hold! Traffic management will sit on this another 20 years!
