Pedestrian crossing button does not work

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights category anonymously at 07:44, Sat 5 November 2022

Sent to Norfolk County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3940256.

I have reported this issue before. I am a severely sight impaired guide dog owner. When crossing Dussindale Drive from the Sainsbury’s side the right hand side pedestrian crossing button does not activate. The button does not cause the lights on the crossing box to activate (the circle of red lights on the box) and the button does not register the presence of pedestrians. Pressing the button does not at any point show a green pedestrian signal on the box nor does the tactile cone underneath turn. Therefore the crossing cannot be used safely. One has to run and hope. This is not acceptable for anyone but for someone sight impaired it is down right dangerous.

This right hand crossing box has not worked for pedestrians for many months and I have reported it before, but have been told it does work. I can categorically state that it doesn’t. I have waited at it for many rounds of the traffic sequence without the tactile cone turning, or the green light showing (fully sighted people have confirmed this). It just doesn’t work.

(Also, when crossing here to the central section of Dussindale Drive the button on the right hand side, standing with Sainsburys behind you, doesn’t have a tactile cone on the bottom. So someone stuck in the centre who is sight impaired cannot tell if it is safe to cross.)
