Massive self-sown sycamore overshadowing our garden

Reported via desktop in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 16:35, Thu 20 October 2022 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3903034.

This tree has grown so tall since 2021, cutting out sunlight from the bottom third of our back garden. We were unable to grow any produce this year.

  • The tree in question is a self-sown sycamore growing on the allotments in Southlands Road/Baths Road. It is immediately against the fence of our rear garden. We live at 21 The Avenue, BR1 2BS. When in leaf through spring, summer and autumn it casts shadow over the bottom third of our garden where we used to grow vegetables. Because of the deep shade we could not grow anything successfully last year or this year. I would estimate the tree has put on about 12ft. growth this year.

  • Thank you for letting us know. We will contact our contractors. This tree should have been cut back by now. There is no pruning of the height of the tree. Bromley dose not prune trees because of light issues. Thank you

  • According to our records, the sycamore has been pruned to remove overhanging vegetation. please note that works beyond that to reduce the tree size to allow more light, prune clear of telephone lines etc will not be taken as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy (https://www.bromley.gov.uk/ downloads/ file/ 3334/ tree_management_strategy_2016-2020). A site visit will be organised to inspect works which you will be updated afterwards.
