Public tree outside 50 Crest View Drive diseased
Reported via desktop in the Tree Requires Pruning category by Iain Carmichael at 14:28, Wed 5 October 2022 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3870188.
This large tree has vertical clefts in the lower trunk. Recently growths of a bright yellow fungus have appeared, and are rapidly growing larger. The colourful appearance may tempt children to taste them, and they could be poisonous. Also, if this is a parasitic fungus, it could endanger the tree.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am sorry we do not remove fungi from trees. The presence of the fungus Laetiporus sulphureus indicates dsfunctionment (decay) in the stem, to complicate matters further, ganoderma is present in one of its scaffold limbs arising from a poorly occluded wound. As a precautionary measure the tree will be removed and we will try our best get the tree replaced next planting season.

Contractors are fully removing tree, but would have been considerate to inform occupants of the houses it is being removed. Very Noisy works yet No notice given, we could have had cars parked on drive?? Also contractors parking on driveway without consent....

My apologies that you were not notified of the trees removal and I will ensure you are notified in future. Robinia's are brittle trees and unfortunately the tree in question had cracks in its stem complicated further by being colonised by wood decay pathogens at various points in the stem where it was cracked. I have spoken to the contractor who apologies and will ensure that they speak to residents for permission before parking on driveways.

Thanks for your response. Quite sad to see the tree now looking like the attached photo. I assume that the tree will now remain like this?

Apologies, the enquiry was closed down in error, not realising that all works had not been completed yet. The remaining works are carried out by separate teams, with a replacement tree planned for planting season. 2023/24. The next stage is for the stem to be removed using a hiab lorry and then a separate team will grind out the stump making the tree pit ready for replanting. Thank you for your continued patience.

Hi, Can you advise when this tree will be removed and replaced? For some reason, workers arrived today and repaired the cracks in the pavement near the tree and placed new tarmac. Sadly, this tree trunk looks unsightly now it has been so drastically cut. Doesn't even look diseased where it has been cut.

Thank you for your comments. I have chased up the completion of the stump grind with the contractor which is in hand to be completed as a priority. A replacement has been added to the planting schedule 2023/24 and in hand to be planted next planting season: November to March 2024.
