Blocked road drains, Temple Street, Keynsham
Reported in the Roads/highways category by Robert Drower at 11:01, Mon 2 September 2013
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 3 minutes later
Two blocked road drains, one at the top of Dapps Hill, the other opposite, outside The Old School, Temple Street, have been blocked for at least two years. Highways have made several attempts to clear them to no avail. During prolonged rainfall, the excess water flows down Dapps Hill compounding problems there, and has resulted in flooding of properties on several occasions. Also, the channel in Dapps Hill, next to the high wall used to flow fast during heavy rain. It is now just a trickle. These problems need addressing urgently to ensure no further damage to property occurs.

During spells of rain on the 20th November, it could be seen that these drains were still blocked as water was flowing across the full drains and running down Dapps Hill. It appears there is a serious problem in this area around the bottom of Albert Road at the junction with Temple Street. Normal gully emptying is obviously not alleviating the problem, so I hope the Highways Department investigate this as soon as possible before further flooding of properties at the bottom of Dapps Hill occurs.

It has been four years since I last reported these blocked road drains. During spells of prolonged rain the same drains are still failing to take rainwater away from the highway. Another drain in Albert Road is also now blocked. This extra water is being diverted down Dapps Hill along with debris and has in the past caused flooding in the lower cottages. In addition, the double drain at the end of the high wall in the bottom of Dapps Hill has been filled with silt and debris for years - in spite of reporting this to highways on several occasions. Please find enclosed photos taken today. The exact location will be observable from these photographs.
