Parking on double yellow lines.
Reported via desktop in the Car parking category anonymously at 07:58, Mon 5 September 2022
Sent to East Lothian Council less than a minute later
Peaking between 4pm til 7pm most evenings there are parked vehicles on double yellows and the pavement, just as you exit the West Port. Anything between 4-6 cars at the busiest time of the typical Dunbar day (Takeaway Time!). They are more than annoying for pedestrians as the pavements here narrow and they cause unnecessary obstruction to the old and infirm, not just other road users. If you add a large delivery vehicle, you get vehicles backing up (exacerbated by the 1 way loop). There are 2 takeaway establishments here. When a change of use is considered the consequences for additional traffic were not taken into account. It seems to be getting much worse.

An ELC officer did reply to the enquiry, sounded sympathetic even, but then said there was little one could do after 5 30pm, when staff knock off and it sounded like nothing would be done about it. Nothing was. Causing obstruction and parking on the pavement is an inconvenience rather than an offence in this town. Yellow lines are not 24hrs and pavements are a versatile shared space that can accomodate the occasional car. The problem will not go away as there is little or no appetite to address them, plenty of appetite for take aways and burgher vans though. Neither ELC officers nor the local / community councillors seem willing to accept that the evening and night time economy creates a multitude of serious issues for the neighbours of these businesses lowering their quality of life. People who live on the high street are treated by elected members like second class citizens and stupid. Sorry it is the economy, stupid!

It gets worse, it is rammed with cars every day, except when closed.

Not fixed. There is little appetite in ELC to fix problems on the High Street lest it upsets the odd trader. It is the economy stupid! More cars = more business = lower house prices on a street near you.
