Nettle and tree overgrowth and cracks in cycleway wide enough to trap cycle tyres

The Ock Valley River Walk is a cut through for pedestrians and cyclists who want to get to Tesco or Fairacres Trading Park without using their cars. It's a green asset. At present the path is very overgrown with nettles (potentially hazardous to anyone falling into them from the path or a bike!). There are also ruts, wide enough to swallow a cycle tyre, in the tarmac. The overgrowth needs clearing and the path needs repairing. There is, otherwise, a risk of someone being thrown off their bike and into a very unpleasant (and potentially hazardous) mass of undergrowth. Many families with young children in buggies use this pathway and it is a very helpful shortcut, avoiding traffic, from nearby housing.

This is the first of two reports made recently about this problem. The other has been closed, OCC having referred the complainant to either ' the local Housing Association', Abingdon Town Council or VOWH District Council. Town Council, possibly. VOWH probably, but this area is nothing at all to do with any Housing Association, local or national. OCC - please update your closure notice before you make the complainant waste his/her time and the Housing Association's time.

Thank you for your report. I have read this report and assessed the issue you have identified, located on the map, on Ock Valley River Walk footpath. Having checked our Highway Records and Public Rights of Way Maps, I can confirm that this footpath is not part of the highway network that Oxfordshire County Council is responsible for maintaining at public expense. You should try the owner of the land i.e. The Local Housing Association, Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council or Vale of White Horse District Council to pursue this matter. I am therefore closing this report.
