Overhanging trees

Reported via mobile in the Trees category anonymously at 09:52, Wed 20 July 2022

Sent to Leeds City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3689725.

We request your intervention regarding trees between the A650 bypass & Adwalton Close, Cromwell Court & Newcastle Close. They were planted to reduce noise & pollution from the A650 traffic but have never been maintained. There are so many trees fighting for sunlight, they are growing at an angle over gardens & are now at a height that should another one fall [as one did, Sept 2021], it would damage the house & completely flatten the garage. From Autumn, the garden is heavily covered by leaves, enough to fill a brown bin on a WEEKLY basis for 2 - 3 months & long after the brown bin collections cease for the winter. A combination of leaves & no sunlight causes paved areas to be slimy & dangerously slippy. The gutters & downpipes regularly block, which resulted in water damage inside our garage. We are requesting that LCC reduce the height of the trees & remove the branches that overhang our gardens to reduce the shade & volume of falling leaves thereby making it a more pleasant & much safer environment. A lot of residents are elderly & struggle to clear the leaves from their gardens. Quite a few of us have already contacted LCC [see posts on Drighlington Matters Forum] but without success.

Thank you

Updates

  • Emailed Leeds City Council & our M.P. Andrea Jenkyns one month ago & heard nothing from either. Not impressed. Why pay our Council Tax or vote for a representative M.P.??

  • LCC visited. Advised they were healthy so they wouldn't be trimming them back. Also said the leaves that fall into our garden, are our problem. Very unhappy.
