Signs blocking pavement again

Reported in the Road or pavement obstruction category anonymously at 16:15, Fri 31 May 2013

Sent to Harrow 5 minutes later

I walk past the Candy store (shop between Piri Piri Chicken & Mango Bar/Restaurant) on Station Road every day. Previously I reported them having a newspaper stand and 3 standing signs outside there store which filled over half the width of the pavement leaving less than 18inches of space for pedestrians to walk. The shop was more considerate and kept the signs/stand one deep. However in the last few days the signs/newspaper stand have once again been taking up over half the pavement. I have spoken to the shop keeper but to no avail. Can these be removed so there is room to walk safly? Currently you have to queue if someone is walking in the opposite direction and there is not sufficient width for buggies & wheelchairs which have to take their chances in the cycle lane (!). This can be dangerous as bikes are not always understanding!

  • The council say they have contacted the store owner but the signs are still obstructing the pavement.

  • Have contacted the council on a number of occasions but the shop is still placing the signs so they block the pavement. Apparently the council like to "support local businesses" rather than provide safe passage for pedestrians. Ho hum .....

  • The council say they have spoken to the shop owner but, as the signs still block the pavement on a regular basis, this is obviously not working. The council just email platitudes & will not say what the next step should be. i have emailed numerous times & even asked if I should be reporting this to another dept due to the lack of progress. i have also copied in the local councilor.
