Speed Limit Sinage

Reported in the Street sign category anonymously at 11:36, Mon 27 May 2013

Sent to Transport For London Street Management 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 360166.

On entering the underpass on the East India Dock Road (A1261) towards Tilbury and the A13, there is a 30 mph speed limit sign. There are no further speed limit signs until 2.5 miles later on Newham Way (A13) saying 50mph.

I'm an experienced driver with a clean licence and many miles under my belt and I regularly use this road to collect and drop off my 4 year old daughter. It's frighting traveling at 30mph because lorries and cars fly up really close to you and very quickly, blasting their horns and flashing their lights (despite being on the inside lane), but I don't want to go faster in case I get a speeding ticket - but it really is a white knuckle ride over that 2.5 mile section. Traffic I'm merging with after exiting the tunnel also seems to be going faster.

In my view, 30mph is far too slow for this road, 50mph would be far more suitable and I certainly think that if 30mph is just for the tunnel, there should be a sign indicating that on exiting the tunnel the speed limit was restored to 50mph.

I would be grateful if you could look at this urgently as it's really dangerous and with all the speed cameras around, you daren't speed up to a safer speed.

  • I have experienced the same travelling that road this morning

  • I wonder if anything can finally be done about this? The problem very much remains and the speed limit is really unclear after the tunnel
