Consistant fly tipping & rat problem!!

Reported via desktop in the Flytipping category anonymously at 10:11, Tue 24 May 2022

Sent to Oxford City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3546955.

The bin situated on the towpath at the corner of Buckingham Street and Cobden Crescent is continually being used as a fly tipping zone. It has been reported numerous times and as responsible neighbours we are having to deal with food waste being strewn by foxes and then rats!! Building materials, used paint pots, hot ash ! which is a clear fire risk and a complete mess of waste being simply dumped out of sight probably at night. Can the council please either remove the bin completely or put up a security camera in the hope of catching or deterring people from disposing of their waste as opposed to taking it to the council tip at Redbridge. It is a complete mess every day now and will lead to vermin problems for any house near to the river and is a hazzard to anyone walking, cycling, fishing or simply living nearby.

  • The issue with this council bin is an ongoing one that has been reported by yourself and numerous others onto this FixMyStreet website. The problem does not go away, continues daily. By the time you get to address the overflowing bins that are reported with photos it is often too late!! At least the Direct Services council van does do a sweep round and clear up but unless you actually come out to view the overflow and fly tipping problems once they are reported to you, not several days later!! you are never going to catch who does it. My last report even notified you that there were boxes with addresses on which would of enabled you to directly catch those flytippers involved but again too late and in the meantime Direct Services came to clear the area. Perhaps the staff of Direct Services should take photos for you to see and catch whoever chooses to dump waste in a public area. Rats have been a continual problem especially by the riverside properties and the congestion of bins and continual fly tipping will not sort the problem. It has been suggested that you remove the bin or pop cameras up but that is up to the council to decide. All I and other responsible house owners in the neighbourhood are doing is simply reporting the problems with hope that some day it will get resolved. To be honest I am a little fed up having to keep doing so but you sent an email asking if the problem was fixed and above is my answer !
