Remove possibly illegal discriminatory chicane barrier

Reported via Android in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 07:53, Thursday 19 May 2022

Sent to Hertfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The chicane barriers on this shared use path are not in line with cycle path design guidance as set out in LTN 1/20. Their design is discriminatory because it prohibits the passage of disabled people using non standard bicycles or wheelchairs. This statutory cycle infrastructure design guidance recommends against using chicane barriers on any cycle path (LTN 1/20 paragraph 8.3.2 and particularly paragraph 8.3.4. https://www.gov.uk/ government/ publications/ cycle-infrastructure-design-ltn-120 )

As such it is likely that if challenged, Herts CC would be liable under the Equality Act 2010 (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ ukpga/ 2010/ 15/ section/ 20#section-20-4)

Other alternatives, including simply a bollard to stop motor vehicles, would be more appropriate. Please put in place an alternative to make this path more accessible for all.
