Pedestrian traffic light unsuitable for sight disabled

Reported via desktop in the Traffic Lights (permanent only) category anonymously at 13:21, Saturday 14 May 2022 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

I am referring to the traffic light when leaving the Aldi carpark near the Wickes. I refer to the traffic light for pedestrians who want to cross the Botley Road. I am not myself sight disabled, but when using this traffic light I saw that there is the kind of bobbly pavement near the traffic light which shows sight disabled people that there is a traffic light. But when you press the button to cross the road there is then neither a sound or a vibration on the box where you press to then "show" the sight disabled persons when the traffic light is green. There needs to be a sound which buzzes when the traffic light is green or there is also the option that the box with the buttons vibrates when the light is green. At the moment there is no way for a sight disabled person to realise that the traffic light is green.

  • Thank you for your recent report. Audible signals cannot be installed at this site as the pedestrian crossings do not appear at the same time. To help visually impaired users of the junction there are tactile cones fitted beneath each of the push button units which rotate during the green man period. An Engineer has visited site and checked the operation of these cones and all were found to be working.

State changed to: No further action
