Wheelie bins stored on cycle path & verge

Reported via mobile in the Rubbish (refuse and recycling) category anonymously at 10:49, Sun 1 May 2022

Sent to Oxford City Council less than a minute later

In the last few weeks the bins for the first few houses on Old Rd have been left on the cycle path - now other bins are being left on the verge. It would be great to restore the verges properly, but can we start by asking the residents to take their bins back to their houses rather than leave them in the public domain.

Updates

  • The Council has been round - but the problem is the behaviour of tenants. As tenancies end over the summer, we don’t want the verges spoilt by this - the landlords should take action.

  • There's clearly a limit to the Council's powers' here - but it's a shame. More households have decided to leave their bins on the verge. Hopefully with the summer turn-over in tenancies they can be put back.

  • The bins were moved back to the frontage of the houses - but not actually onto their property - but they’ve gone and put them back on the verge.

  • Bins still there. After the dry summer, we need to rescue our verges - the ones on Gipsy Lane, Morrell Avenue and Old Road are splendid, but neglected. They don’t need to become bin stores.

  • There are some new tenants in the HMOs - they are assuming that they can leave their bins in the verge itself as the first house leaves their bins on the cycle path. It’s not complicated- bins need to be stored on their property.
