Black bollard with no reflective material

Reported via desktop in the Potholes and maintenance category anonymously at 23:54, Wed 30 March 2022

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 2 years, 9 months, 3 weeks, 11 hours, 29 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 3427990.

There is a completely black metal bollard in the middle of the cycle path just by the Swan school entrance. This is already a bit of a congested / convoluted part of the path with a kink in the path and multiple bollards, and this one right in the middle of the path is virtually invisible in the dark. Would it be possible for it to have some reflective tape / paint applied please?

  • I can't understand why this item needs to be 'assessed'. The bollard is the central one of three, positioned in the centre of a busy (very) cycle path. The bollards to the right and the left have very helpful reflective strips and white stripes to improve visibility. There is a matching set of three bollards on the north/northwest side of the junction with the Swan School access road. All three of these have white stripes and reflective strips. Did you run out of the proper bollards? This one is an outlier. Out of the six bollards at this busy junction, there is only one that is plain black. Its almost as though someone is trying very hard to cause an accident! When plans for the Swan School were put forward, one of the main concerns from residents was traffic. We were assured that EVERYTHING would be done to make sure the cycle path between Marston and Summertown was no more dangerous. In this case, it seems that the council think that a simple strip of reflective material and/or a splash of white paint is beyond reasonable requirements. Please just do this. It really doesn't need thinking about. Remedial action would be simple, quick and cheap. It is an absolute necessity and would prevent the sort of trips to A&E that this one has already cost.
