Dangerous parking requires yellow lines
Reported via desktop in the Parking queries/reports category anonymously at 14:11, Thu 3 March 2022
Sent to Brighton and Hove City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3359288.
The corner of Westfield Ave and Saltdean Vale is constantly being used as a parking space. Vehicles parked there are over the 'give way' junction and block the view of oncoming traffic. The problem is compounded by the fact that Westfield Avenue has cars permanently parked on one side forcing all traffic into the right hand lane, so vehicles wanting to come out off the junction are coming out blind on the wrong side of the road. Not only that there is also a bus stop opposite and a staggered junction, which adds to the dangers. We are lucky that recently a Bus Stop box has been painted opposite the junction, but I believe it still requires a double yellow line to stop vehicles parking there and causing issues. I have many more photos of dangerous parking if required as it is an all round daily issue that will eventually result in a car collision, or worse, at that junction.

Our local Councillor has been involved with this case and it has been put to the council as part of a document detailing other areas within saltdean that also require yellow lines and other road markings to make the roads safer. As yet there is still no confirmation of anything being done about this particular junction, and yet on a daily basis I narrowly avoid cars and vans cutting the corner to enter Westfield Ave, and they are blind to anyone coming down the hill due to parked vehicles on the corner, sometimes literally straddling the giveway markings on the junction, so no one entering or leaving there can see what is up ahead
