Traffic selecting incorrect lane on approach to roundabout

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 22:38, Mon 28 February 2022

Sent to Kent County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3351894.

Drivers approaching the central roundabout in the left lane for the B2017 Five Oak Green Road are cutting up the drivers who have selected the right hand lane for continued direction heading for the A21 north or south or possibly for the Porsche Dealership. The last thing you want is inpatient drivers cutting you up on the inside who should have exited left towards Five Oak Green. May I suggest that road markings be painted on the road directing the traffic in left hand lane must turn left and those of us heading for the A21 in right hand land can proceed without the fear of traffic trying undertake us on the inside as we exit the roundabout in the correct lane. Many thanks for giving this your consideration.

Updates

  • This a public hazard for those law abiding drivers who select the correct lane on approach to roundabouts unlike those drivers who use the near side or left lane to undertake traffic in straight ahead or right turn at the roundabout. I’ve lost count of the number of times as I exit the roundabout only to find a car trying to undertake me when I’m in the correct lane for exiting the roundabout correctly.

  • I think at least The Highways should upgrade the raid/lane markings to reduce the risk of certain drivers opting for the wrong lane.
