Dangerous crossing that has become even more hazardous with all the HS2 roadworks going on. There is no signage, the road markings have all gone and in the dark it is impossible to make out where the road is and where HS2 are digging up or putting new road surfaces down. There needs to be more signage to alert drivers where exactly the crossroads are.
I’ve attached an exchange from the local Facebook group highlighting the dangers on that crossing. Clearly this issue was already present before HS2 came along, it seems to have gotten worse. There was a fatal accident there a few years ago, many others have experienced near misses.
We had an accident there last week, one of our Parish Councillors had a near miss a couple of weeks ago, another PC witnessed two near misses and a third Cllr witnessed another near miss whilst attending an on-site meeting with the Unitary County Cllr and HS2/EKFB staff. Not only is this dangerous for drivers and other people taking part in traffic, the HS2 compound is close enough that workers might be in the road and putting their lives at risk. I’m aware the junction will be altered after HS2 has completed the works there, but since this could take a few years yet, we need action now!
Please make this junction safe as a matter of urgency!
