Tree Preservation Order application

Reported via desktop in the Trees category anonymously at 10:14, Tue 11 January 2022

Sent to Leeds City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3231645.

There is a Dawn Redwood tree (Metasequoia. glyptostroboides) in the garden of 1 Grosvenor Mount. Dawn Redwoods were thought to be extinct until rediscovered in 1944 in Northwest China, with seeds being brought back to Leeds shortly thereafter. There are two Dawn Redwoods growing in Leeds University campus of the same age as the one in Grosvenor Mount. This is an extremely rare tree, growing sufficiently far from buildings not to pose a risk of damage to them. I believe this tree thoroughly deserves to be protected.
