Pothole near junction

Reported via mobile in the Potholes category anonymously at 15:56, Sun 28 November 2021

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later

There is a wide pothole forming which causes an issue when turning into Tavistock road as you cannot avoid it. Cold wet weather will take away more road surface if not repaired.

Updates

  • Pothole is clearly getting worse with sharp edges. Council said on inspection it's not bad enough yet. OK, so prevention is not the best course of action, better to let the hole get much bigger so someone's tyres/wheel get damaged?

Also ignoring the fact this hole is visible from the main road so drivers turning into Tavistock try to avoid it and break the white lines into the other lane with incoming traffic!

  • Pot hole still there, you have to take avoiding action which could be a potential collision with another car. I

  • Pothole getting bigger. Cars are coming from Reading Road North onto Tavistock Road and trying to avoid the pothole by crossing the white line and going on the other side of the road, endangering other road users approaching the junction.

  • Unfortunately, the council didn't deem this pothole repair worthy - just like a lot of the roads in and around Fleet filled with similar holes which the council are choosing to ignore (likely due to a lack of funds).

For years they chose to patch fill the potholes but these repairs never last (because they are poorly done and no real prep work is done) and now many roads are in desperate need of resurfacing, which of course will cost even more.

And I don't think updating these threads draws their attention - I think they only get alerts to new reports.
