Hi please could you remove the weekend closure before there is a serious accident or death. All of the traffic is being diverted down the old A11 that is B road that is now backed up on the thicktorn roundabout and causing standing traffic on the A47. There is no way that a weekend closure should not have been allowed. The work could and should have been done in night time closure like the rest of the work. All the traffic is now rat running through Great Melton village and there have been a number of near misses already.
Please hurry and deal with this before there is a serious accident.
Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the A11 closures.
We contacted the site manager for feedback on the weekend works and he has stated there were no issues or incidents. However, he did confirm that the A47 off slip was busy at Thickthorn.
The delays could also have been impacted by Cadent carrying out emergency gas repairs in the area.
We only ever close the A11 in one direction at any one time and over the last weekend the southbound carriageway was closed. The northbound carriageway remained open.
To help mitigate traffic congestion, during all our road closures an additional diversion route is signed following the A140 and A1066. For high sided lorries that cannot fit under the low bridge at Diss there is a further signed diversion route using the A140 and A14. HGV haulage and Bus companies have been informed of these route options.
Diversion routes are planned and agreed with local authorities. Unfortunately, we have no control over drivers choosing to follow satellite navigation systems and/or using their local knowledge of quicker routes.
Currently we have not received any other information on issues arising from the weekend closure but please don’t hesitate to come back to me if you require any additional information.
