I contacted the council some time ago and received a standard reply The defect intervention criteria adopted in relation to the identification of all categories of carriageway potholes. Cat 1 potholes must be a minimum of 50mm depth, 150mm wide and have a vertical face. All other potholes are Cat 2.
The time period(s) adopted between identification and repair (temporary and permanent) of all categories of carriageway defects. The maintenance priorities for Cat 1 and Cat 2 repairs are as follows: Cat 1 defects are made safe or repaired with 24hrs, Cat 2 defects are repaired during planned programmed works within 28 days.
Whether or not the authority has formally adopted all or part of the standards contained within the national code of practice for highways maintenance management. The National Code of Practice is an integral part of the Highways Contract with Amey
I am emailing you today to make you aware of the dangerous state of the pavement on the odd numbered side of st michaels avenue houghton regis the once grassed sections are so badly damaged the depth is in excess of the figures mentioned above and in some parts has caused the pavement to fracture and fall into said holes .
I have to walk home this way in the dark and as its poorly lit anyway this just compounds the problem
I trust you will fulfill your obligations and make this a safer place to walk especially in this day and age when a simple trip results in some cases of legal action being taken
Thanks sg

Well romans gardens has been partially repaired and everything else has been marked out and abandoned as is now deteriorating even further ,however it has also been quoted from other residents most notably the pensioners i know that they have stumbled a few times while returning home from shopping trips as well as this issues have been raised by carers from scope the care home in roman court with regard to the poor state of repairs when escorting their wheelchair users out and about during the day.

Same over here, marked and abandoned. they did a couple of holes on the corner of watling and st michaels, but that is the last we will see of them until election time, when it will be done and the local Councillors will say, 'look what we had done for you, give us your vote' when it has been like this for years. pity full response.

we will see, they are currently workers in the street doing a number of jobs in relation to the pot holes and verges. we will see how long the patch repairs last

The workers have been here over the past few weeks doing the verges. it is an absolutely awful job. it looks worse than when they started. the surface is already breaking up and the one in front of my house has only been down 2 days. there are parts of the road surface that they never completed and this is from weeks ago.
Over all this is a cheap tat job, they have spoiled our street for an aipeth of tar, if you will forgive the pun

This "work"thaat has been done here is a real mess its all poorly compacted gravel and what looks like landfill waste one of the repaired bits has pottery and mirror fragments in it ,the areas marked concrete havent been done and in terms of ground reinstatement this is not acceptable as it is failing already . i am hoping this is a temporary repair while amey locate the tarmac which if it helps is in the carpark of the old morrisons building in a big pile i checked this mess repair yesterday and and it falls well below a proper finish or job i shall look into reinstatement guidelines and post them if needed . also the potholed section at junction to bedford rd i guess they missed that

Very bad indeed, is there not some penalty clauses build into these contracts, this is the normal procedure.
We should do an FOI on the council to ascertain this and other monitoring criteria

Dear Mr Pearce
I am sorry you hear you are disappointed with the work we have carried out in St. Michaels Road.
Unfortunately due to a restricted budget, I have had to look at a cost effective method of trying to remove the deep defects from the verges and to tidy up the area for the immediate future. Budget permitting I will be looking at trying to finish off the verges in tarmac but this will be in the longer term.
The patch in the carriageway is yet to be completed due to the traffic management which has been in place in the High Street area (which has caused queuing traffic in Bedford Road). I am hoping to get the patch completed in the next week or so as all traffic management requirements in the High Street will switch to night-time as of next week.
Please accept my apologies for the protracted time these works have taken but unfortunately the programming of the works has been outside of my control.

Dear Jill Cross,
Many thanks for your mail below. Of course we appreciate budgetary concerns. However, not only, as your mail points out, is this a makeshift job, short term and with little insight as to the finished product.
It is the actual job itself that is appalling. the line drawing and patching looks like it was laid out by someone who is inebriated. i have never in my life seen the likes of this type of lining, yes of course on a small patch on the road or pavement, but long runs of lining should be properly laid down, straight, symmetrical and tidy.
This edging work is the worst edging work i have ever seen. as an former inspector of housing and building works, i would be apaplectic if one of my contractors had carried out such work. i would indeed have escorted them from the site and reported them to both sets of line managers with advice in relation to breach of contract.
I state to you again, they have destroyed the ascetics of the street, it indeed looked better as it was, holes and all

The contractor has made a complete mess of the job. there are bits of plastic showing through and now ther are tuffts of growth showing through, the surface is breaking up.. overall it is woeful and i would sack the contractors and claim money back for a lack of reasonable work carried out

The gravel dumped in the holes is now loose and in some parts on the pavement and in the road due to it not being bonded in anyway ie tarmac mix or cement to bind it together ,the earlier work nearer bedford rd being the best example it looks like landfill material that contains plastic ,a fragment of mirror and "other"stuff ...
