Dangerous and noisy layout to intersection of Albemarle and Westgate Road

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later

Hi, A few months ago, I was able to live in peace on Albemarle Road, with traffic reduced and a road that was now safer to cross. As someone living near the intersection, I am now awoken and disturbed regularly throughout the door by car horns as cars have near-misses on the new road layout. Since the road layout changed in August, I have witness 4 separate incidents of cyclists being abused by car drivers as some kind of near-miss occurs. This new road layout is dangerous, it is dangerous to cross near, and will result in an accident before the end of the year. Either this road should be returned to One-Way (which was the SAFEST by far) or to the original layout from pre-2020, which insured that drivers did not whip around a 90 degree blind corner.

  • This report has been referred to our Traffic Management Team who are responsible for the way traffic is managed on Bromley's roads; including, but not limited to, implementing new road markings and signage in relation to road safety and parking; walking and cycling improvements, including identifying locations for new cycle racks and installing Vehicle Activated speed signs - however, please note that responsibility for enforcing speed limits rests with the Police.

Where requests are made for changes, our Traffic Management Team will consider all requests but often there is a need for a full investigation, planning and consultation within the local area particularly around proposed new traffic schemes, and any considerations must be balanced with borough-wide priorities. This report is now closed on FixMyStreet and our Traffic Management Team will consider this matter.
