The recent installation of traffic lights on the junction of Crest Road and John Hall Way has caused regular serious congestion and sometimes gridlock of traffic trying to negotiate the Handy Cross roundabout. No doubt public complaint and enquiry will determine why this poor construction decision was made, but it is bad and is costing businesses lost revenue in staff delays, aside from the stress and anger that is also resulting from drivers.
A good while ago when consultations were taking place on how to try and make the experience of travel to the Cressex Business Estate better, we suggested some simple works such as widening/introducing another lane to the left of the existing roundabout lanes, directly between the M40 slip road exit (travelling from Oxford) and John Hall Way.
This will provide drivers the ability to get past traffic held at the next set of traffic lights as turning to Marlow Road, and keep traffic flowing.
This looked to have been a far easier option, as there is ample width on the wide grass verge that could have been used, and we are only taking a distance of 50 meters maybe that could help to alleviate some major pinch points.
All said, those traffic lights at Crest Road are proving a big problem to traffic already. The works can't have been cheap, and nobody I have spoken to can understand what was wrong with the roundabout that was there previously. I've been driving down that area for years, and never saw serious delays of any sort what would have warranted such a major amount of change.

No one uses the right hand lane - please erect signage to state use both lanes! This is what causes queueing back onto handy cross and inability for cars to exit effectively from the M40 slip road- by the time traffic has moved into John hall way, the lights off the m40 have allowed 3 cars through -who then have to sit and wait to get into the queue of traffic.
