Dangerous road surface
Reported via desktop in the Damaged road category anonymously at 08:46, Sat 4 September 2021
Sent to London Borough of Bexley less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2978054.
As part of the Safer Routes to School Scheme the stretch of carriageway leading to the pedestrian crossing outside the school was coated with a high grip surface. This was in 2002/2003 and the surface has not been maintained since then. The high grip coating was worn away after a couple of years and has left very dangerous scars in the surface. Cars will wander across the lanes as a result and PTWs have great difficulty in maintaining a straight line, as well as stability. Braking distances will have increased due to the poor surface, making the application of the high grip surface nonsense and it is probably only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs here. This was reported to the council over a year ago but nothing has been done.

There are no signs that this has been investigated (eg- no paint sprayed around the area). Add into the mix the complete lack of road safety sense displayed by the student (and often the staff), it is only a matter ot time before there is a problem with a vehicle not being able to stop or stay in a straight line (cars already wander as they cross this section).

No sign that this has been looked at. 2 and 4 wheeled vehicles still encounter difficulty in staying in a straight line on the approach to the crossing point and braking distances are clearly adversly affected by the poor surface.
