Parking unsecured and without an operators license.

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 09:02, Thu 26 August 2021

Sent to Leicestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2959639.

Vehicle Reg. - KP55 VNN Location - Burleigh Avenue, Wigston Issue - Claiming to be exempt from requiring an operators license due to being a "recovery business" and/or the vehicle not exceeding the weight limit despite proof to the contrary.

Gov. legislation states "You’ll need a goods vehicle operator’s licence for a motor vehicle and trailer combination if:

The motor vehicle and the trailer(s) are plated and the total of their gross plated weights is more than 3,500 kg

The total unladen weight of the vehicle and trailer combination is more than 1,525 kg

You do not need an operator’s licence if your trailer’s unladen weight is less than 1,020 kg and you only carry your own goods.

These cars are for sale and being traded and in the supplied images at least 2 trailers are clearly in breach of this requirement.

Owner operates from Burleigh Avenue and has static vehicles parked all over the block including Westfield Avenue and Croft Drive amongst others (other examples shown in this image such as Barnby Avenue opposite Bethel Church that gave not moved for months so clearly not recovery).

The O license query and supporting evidence has also been sent to DVSA, DVLA, The Police, Local MP's and the press.

  • It would be good to see the back of these abandoned vehicles along with the lorries and trailers. There are also vehicles parked off-road but proving a hazard to footpath users. These have not been moved for months. If someone is running a motor trading business, surely they need premises?? The area around Guilford Drive/ Burleigh Avenue and Barnby, in particular, are used by parents/carers on the school run; the parking of so many vehicles by one business exacerbates the problem. It seems that an operator's licence is required, thus necessitating premises for storage of the lorries/cars. Can this not be enforced??The whole neighbourhood would be relieved of this scourge on the area.

  • Not solved and even more cars now appearing in the neighbourhood.

This man is being allowed to do what he likes and is taking the mickey by using our streets as his very own car lot.

Nice work Oadby and Wig Council!
