Intrusive street light into my house

Reported via desktop in the Street Lighting and Road Signs category anonymously at 09:41, Wed 18 August 2021

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later

The street light outside number 64 Harvest Bank Road and the light directly on the grass verge by my house in Hartfield Crescent (I live in the corner house on both Hartfield Crescent and Harvest Bank Road) shines very brightly and directly through our windows at the front of the house and also the side through our kitchen. They need to have a small 3-5" shade fitted to prevent this intrusion.. I have noticed that some other lights in the area have such shielding shades or are of a different light cover that prevents this. Street lighting is to illuminate pavements and roads not shine directly into our house especially since the old street lighting was replaced with these new ultra brilliant white lights. My wife and I are 75 years old and we would greatly appreciate you carrying out what is only a minor modification. Thank you.

  • I have heard nothing from Bromley Council over the issue I have with the street light outside of my house since first reporting it. This is not acceptable. If, as you state, "Further works are necessary to resolve the issue and have been scheduled for action." when is it "scheduled for action" ?

  • Email received at CSC 17.11.21 at 10.39 It has taken months for the council to act.

    1. Their contractor turned up and put a shade on the back of the light opposite our house rather than on the front. Therefore increasing the brilliance towarce my house. After I spoke to them they took it down and told me they would be back to fit as required on the front (a smaller shade suitable for the front)

    2. They had no extra shade or instruction for the other light on the Hartfield Crescent side of our house. But after some discussion (they said the Council was useless!) they fitted the first shade they had brought, to that light but never positioned it correctly so it makes no difference to the light shining in.

This is such a simple job if only those in charge of organising this had any competence in knowing what to do!

All in all just a waste of time and public money. Another example of Bromley Council's incompetence.
