Multiple damaged paving slabs

Reported via desktop in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 23:58, Sun 15 August 2021

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2937361.

Illegal driving on the pavement in front of the shops between Lavant Street and Park Road has damaged many of the paving slabs in the first and second, and some even in the third, rows. Many are sufficiently cracked and loose to present a hazard to more infirm members of our community. This is a continual problem in Petersfield and one which the council seemingly is incapable of getting a grip on.

Updates

  • I support this report. It is ridiculous how many people drive along the paving slabs wrecking them. Sometimes vans are left on them all day long!

  • You can take pictures like this all day every day.

I see no reason why tax payers money should be diverted to compensate for fall injuries or repairs to footways when there are better things it could be used for.

  • Try taking a trip over to Penn's Place where the council is. Last time I visited a few weeks ago, I still wasn't even let in the front door. I also noticed I literally saw nobody working in any of the offices - except for one person who, very reluctantly, and rudely, answered the bell.

I'm not sure what their policy is there, but it sure looks like they're still 'working' from home. And I meant to put 'working' in quotes.

  • Please disregard my previous comment as your report was related to HCC, which are actually better at getting work done, whereas EHDC are not good at all.

  • From HCC:

"The enquiry you raised has been inspected. As it does not present a hazard to highway users it does not require action at this time.

Adopted roads in Hampshire are routinely inspected at regular intervals. The issue will be monitored and any future maintenance requirements will be identified as part of this process. "

Apparently loose broken paving slabs are not a hazard to highway users. Not if you're in a motor vehicle anyway. So it's business as usual - the pedestrian gets the mucky end of the stick yet again.
