Drain/Manhole Cover dislodged
Reported via desktop in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 11:12, Tue 27 July 2021
Sent to Kent County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2894007.
Ref: 587364. The manhole is situated immediately in front of the Strict Baptist Chapel, Town Hill, Lamberhurst, TN3 8EN. This was ‘forced up’ due to the pressure of rainwater on Sunday 26th July 2022 and is now protruding about 6 inches above the pavement. There is also a 6 inch gap where the manhole cover has been dislodged from the frame surround. Both of these issues are trip hazards. In the short term A) This requires urgent attention and B) In the long term the drainage needs a thorough inspection as this is a constant recurring problem in the event of heavy rainfall. It would appear that there is a blockage further down the hill which causes a back-up of water when there is heavy rainfall so that it cannot flow through and in forces the manhole cover to lift causing the associated hazards. The adjacent drain cover in the gutter was repaired about 3 or 4 weeks ago but the manhole - on the footway - is now the real ongoing problem.

The manhole cover and surround has been repaired but I am not sure whether the whole drainage system has been checked/cleared - if it has not been I fear that the problem may well reoccur in the event of heavy rainfall. If it does i will contact you again.

To date there has not been a heavy rainfall so I do not know whether the drainage system has been cleared sufficiently to prevent a recurrence of flooding. The change in weather and seasons in the coming weeks/months may prove whether the it has been successful or not.
