Rule 243 of the Highway Code states you must not park opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space. The possible penalty is a non-endorsable fixed penalty of £50–£100 for causing an unnecessary obstruction. If an accident were to occur: it’s likely the owner of an offending vehicle will take a large proportion of the blame – and be fined accordingly.
