Illegible speed limit sign

Reported via desktop by Michael Mitchell at 11:19, Tuesday 22 June 2021

Sent to Colchester Borough Council and Essex County Council less than a minute later

Below Queens road there is a 20mph speed limited zone. On the west side of the High Street the sign has been turned through 90 degrees, so that it cannot be seen by traffic going down into the zone. Much of the traffic down does not slow down for the zone. Many people who live in Wiv do not know that the zone exists. The sign needs to be properly aligned so that people cans it, and it can do its job.

  • It looks as though the sign has been moved a bit but it is still not properly visible to traffic coming down the street. Part of that problem is that it has been hidden behind an electricity pole. It was not clear that the sign is in the wrong place until it had been adjusted. It would make sense to relocate the speed limit sign uphill of the pole.
